A Sender Rewriting Scheme (SRS) has been proposed for mail forwarders to use to make forwarded mail more compatible with SPF, but it has seen little use. It embeds the original bounce address of a message in a new address in the domain of the forwarder which will pass SPF. if the message bounces, the bounce is intended to return to the forwarder, which can recover the original address and forward back the bounce.
